ABOUT CHEERLEADING SAFETY

In accordance with Pop Warner Cheerleading, we promote safety as our number one priority for all participants. Our core mission is enabling young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. The key to successful cheerleading is educating participants on the importance of performing in a structured, secure, and monitored setting. Cheerleading is one of the safest sports for student-athletes.

To ensure the Cannoneers program is at the forefront of participant health and safety, we continue to work with great partners in the following ways:
  • We apply guidelines as outlined by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association to reduce cheerleading injuries at all levels. Such initiatives are as follows: proper conditioning, spotting, knowledgeable coaches, appropriate warmups and exercise reminders, and strict no-horseplay rules.
  • We enforce compliance with Pop Warner Cheerleading rules ensuring each practice has at least one person holding a Red Cross Community CPR and a First Aid certification OR National Center for Sports Safety PREPARE Certificate of Completion, or equivalent, if not by an EMT or volunteer physician.
  • We are committed to ensuring that all cheerleaders have access to the tools they need to succeed, including proper equipment, trained instructors, and medical resources, as defined by the research and educational material available from USA Cheer.
